First Wednesday Poets' Dance

An evening of poetry, music, and dance from the Langston Hughes Poetry Circle.  Poets, dancers, and musicians collaborate in an unrehearsed, spontaneous fusion of creative expression.  A different dance company will participate each month from a pool of dancers including, modern dancers Betzi Roe, Jennifer Oliver, Jillian Chu; African dancer  Suzanne Forbes-Vierling; modern/ballet dancers Ryan Orion Beck and Kevin Jenkins, and others.

Let's not forget the matches that light the fire.  Innovative guitarist Will Munroe on electric guitar and Native American flute, and perfect meter drummer Cody Holland provide lightning and thunder for the spoken words and movement.  Past muscians have included Delores Fisher on keyboards, Daffney Edwards on electric bass, and Patrick Forbes-Vierling on djembe.  We hestitate to call it eclectic music but whatever you call it it works.

Find First Wednesday Poets' Dance at Hot Monkey Love Cafe, 3875 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92116 at the east end of the Bank of America parking lot.  The show starts at 8:00 P.M. and after the LHPC reads there is an open mic.  Open mic signup is at 7:30 P.M. for poetry which dignifies the dancers.

Admission is $5.00 for the general public.
                            $2.00 for students with ID.
